Friday, April 15, will be a very special day for 240 Fortis College, Centerville students. Not only will they be graduating, prepared to embark on exciting new careers, they will be the first group of campus students to have a sitting federal judge as their commencement speaker.
Judge Thomas M. Rose, United States District Court Judge for the Southern District of Ohio, will address the new graduates and congratulate them on their accomplishments. The Fortis College, Centerville graduation will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 15, at the James S. Trent Arena in Kettering (3301 Shroyer Road, on the campus of Kettering Fairmont High School). The event is free and open to the public.
“It is an incredible honor to have such a renowned and respected commencement speaker as Judge Rose,” said campus President Dr. Richard Rucker. “Throughout his career, as an assistant prosecutor, then Judge of the Greene County Common Pleas Court and today in the U.S. District Court, Judge Rose has demonstrated the strong principles that position him as an excellent role model for our graduates to follow.”
Nearly half the students listening to Judge Rose will be nursing graduates, one of the campus’ strongest programs. The others will have completed a variety of technical and professional courses, including paralegal and criminal justice programs. Fortis College, Centerville has a long history of graduates from the paralegal program who are employed in the region’s legal community.
An integral part of the Dayton-area community for 57 years as RETS College, the campus changed its name last April to Fortis College. It remains the same school it was as RETS, under the same ownership. However, as Fortis the campus now draws upon the expanded resources, technology and program offerings that Fortis’ network of more than 30 colleges and institutes in 13 states provides.
A leading post-secondary education network that engages students in a powerful learning and training experience for lifelong growth, Fortis offers degree, diploma and certificate-granting programs that produce “job ready” employees prepared for a wide variety of entry-level positions. Fortis is affiliated with the Denver School of Nursing, St. Paul’s School of Nursing, All State Career School, Medix School and Tri-State Business Institute.
