What do pharmacy technicians do on the job?  Pharm techs work under the supervision of pharmacists.  They collect information needed to fill a prescription from customers or health professionals,  they measure amounts of medication for prescriptions; they package and label prescriptions; and they organize inventory and alert pharmacists to any shortages of medications or supplies.

There are numerous wonderful opportunities in this field.  Pharmacy technicians work primarily in pharmacies, including those found in grocery and drug stores. Some technicians work in hospitals or other healthcare facilities. Most pharmacy technicians work full time. Pharmacies may be open at all hours. Therefore, pharmacy technicians may have to work nights or weekends.

If you are interested in becoming a pharmacy technician, now is a great time to get started.  Our diploma program prepares you for entry-level work in a variety of settings like those listed above. Some may even choose to become a pharmacy aide to a representative for a pharmaceutical company after graduation.

As the population ages and as more people have access to health insurance coverage, the demand for prescription drugs will continue to rise which means employment opportunities for trained pharmacy technicians is expected to rise faster than the average for all occupations for at least the next 10 years.  As pharmacists increasingly performing more patient care activities such administering flu shots, this mean pharm techs are expected to take a greater role in pharmacy operations.  Increasingly, the medical community is relying on educated technicians to help licensed pharmacists provide medication and other healthcare products, information, and education to patients.     To qualify for admissions, in most cases you must be a high school graduate or its equivalent. All applicants are required to complete a personal information sheet. During a personal interview with our admissions staff, we will review your career goals to help you find the right program to fit your needs.

    Every individual will be given the opportunity to tour the facility, meet with Financial Aid, and enroll in the next available classes. Please contact your local campus Admission advisor for more information on admission requirements.

    All State operates a Career Services Center at each campus to assist graduates with career placement. All State Career provides graduate employment assistance. As graduation approaches, students get the opportunity to meet with the Director of Career Services during their last semester to discuss career services available for their individual job search. As a graduate, you will want employment that reflects your skills, training, and allows for professional growth and development. Career Services is committed to helping you find the right fit for you.
